Tri-City League Formed

It was shortly after the end of the 2020 season when the PJBSL Board members began discussing other options for the 2021 season. Several of the parents and coaches approached the Board to provide their input on how the season went. After careful consideration the PJBSL has decided to partially leave the Miami Valley Softball League and the North Miami Valley Rec. League. By leaving both leagues the PJBSL found themselves scrambling to find a league where their players could compete in.

There was a possibility of joining Greenville who was involved with the Cross County League but the Board of Directors never responded with their answer of allowing us to join them or not. After striking out to find a league to join, PJBSL's Vice President Mark Stillwell had the idea of creating our own league. But who would join in such short notice?

The Board began reaching out to all of the surrounding cities letting them know we were creating our own new league to compete in. In late December of 2020 the PJBSL met with board members from Covington, Newton and Miami East to discuss competing against each other. Unfortunately there were some rule changes we would have to make in order to join those other cities. The PJBSL Board discussed the mandatory rule changes and decided it was not in our kid's best interest to conform to those changes which prevented us from joining that league.

Just when we were ready to throw in the towel and go back to the MVSL and NMVRL we received a call from Covington who said Newton elected to go to the CCL. Covington wanted to meet with us, along with Miami East, to discuss our options. After several meetings and discussions all three cities have agreed to compete against each other in what we are describing as the Tri-City League for the 2021 season. This will allow our Rookie, Minor and Major baseball divisions as well as our 8U, 10U and 12U Softball divisions to compete against other talent from the area. THIS WILL NOT EFFECT THE T-BALL, 13-15 Y/O BASEBALL OR 14U SOFTBALL DIVISIONS. T-Ball will be played in house and no travel will be required. The 13-15 y/o division will still compete in the NMVRL and the 14U softball will complete in the MVSL (if there are enough players who sign up to form a team).

Members from each of the three cities have formed their own Board who will speak on behalf of their respective city. Currently the Tri-City League Board members are finalizing the rules for gameplay and who will host which division for the end of the season championship tournament. More information will be shared once the Board finalizes it.

Thank you to the hard working PJBSL Board members who are dedicated to making the 2021 season a fun one. Go Piqua!
